Pros and Cons of Traveling With a Tour Group

When traveling to another country or to a place with historical landmarks, arranging for tours can be a great way to learn about the area and its significance. However, some tours can be long and tedious, full of boring information and virtually impossible to escape from. Below are some pro’s and con’s associated with tours to help you figure out whether a tour is going to be right for your trip.

Con’s of Traveling Through a Tour
Your guide may be long winded and talk for hours about every detail of the area (way more than you want to know.)

Being part of a tour can be an added expense when compared to traveling on your own.

Your days and hours are planned out for you and you have little flexibility in what you do or where you go, it has already been planned out for you in advance.

You may be forced to see things you are not interested in seeing and skip the things you are.

Your tour guide could be inexperienced and unable to answer your questions.

You may have little flexibility with regards to how long you spend at each area.

You may not get along with the other people on your tour, yet are still forced to spend hours traveling around with them.

Pro’s of Traveling Through a Tour
Your tour guide could be an expert on the area and point out things you would never have noticed on your own.

Your guide may be privy to certain areas that are off limits to regular tourists.

You don’t have to do research on the area to find out how to get to and from any specific place, it is already arranged and planned out for you in advance.

Your tour guide is there to answer any questions you may have that your tour-book doesn’t answer.

If you are in another country, your guide may not only be able to help you understand the ancient ruins and historical landmarks, but may also be able to help you understand the culture of the country you are visiting. This can be especially useful in a country where the language is different. A tour guide is a great resource when seeking a bathroom or medical attention.
