Recommendations, hints and resources for your next trip to Cabo including activity ideas and packing tips.
When choosing Cabo San Lucas as your vacation destination there are certain things that you should make sure are on your packing list. You will not need to bring much, because much can be found there, but there are certain items that ought to be brought from home.
The primary thing to make sure you have is your passport or other proof of identification and citizenship. These items will be needed to enter Mexico and possibly to return home.
The next thing to remember is that while you will not need to bring many clothes (warm weather leads to small sundress, shorts, and suits) make sure that the ones you bring are light and comfortable as well as easy to care for as well as comfortable shoes or sandals.
While US currency is accepted nearly everywhere, you may choose to convert your dollars to pesos as you will get a better exchange rate.
Other items you may want to consider bringing:
SWIMSUIT- after all- you are surrounded by some of the most beautiful beaches in the world...
SUNBLOCK - at least level 15 is recommended. Mexico is a lot closer to the equator than most of your homes are! Buy it at home, because it is more expensive in Cabo San Lucas.
HAT or UMBRELLA- again the sun can be more intense in Cabo San Lucas, being located 10 degrees below the Tropic of Cancer at a latitude of approximately 22 degrees
TOILET PAPER - You will see that we are not so crazy when you start traveling around Mexico and you need to use a public bathroom. Toilet paper is unavailable at most of these places, so start collecting.
PEPTO-BISMAL, IMMODIUM AD, OR KAOPECTATE - Hopefully, you'll never have to break the seal on these bottles, but word has it these items, as well as general toiletries tend to be pricy in Cabo San Lucas.
MEDICATION- Make sure to bring sufficient medication, since it may be difficult to find locally.
These are just some suggestions for travelers. Most everything can be found in Cabo San Lucas, if you discover something you have left at home.

Cabo San Lucas is a picturesque resort city which divides the Pacific Ocean coast of Baja from the Sea of Cortez. It is located at the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula in the State of Baja California Sur, Mexico. With an average yearly temperature of 80 degrees and 350 sunny days a year, Cabo San Lucas is blessed with almost perfect weather. It is no great surprise that Cabo San Lucas is often visited by more than 800,000 tourists each year.
Scuba diving is one of the most popular water activities. Cabo San Lucas is ideal for both beginning and advanced divers. Diving in the Sea of Cortez is an extraordinary experience. There are shipwrecks, caves, reefs, and rare sand falls to explore. Diving conditions are terrific year round, with the average temperatures ranging between 78° and 85°F and visibility often greater than 100 feet.
June to October offer the greatest visibility and longest periods of calm weather. While scuba diving offers loads of underwater pleasure, it also has risks associated with it ranging from minor ear troubles to possible death. Most common ailments are inner ear discomfort and cuts, scrapes and bruises from rubbing up against fish, coral and other underwater hazards. Less common but much more serious are the well-known "bends," the decompression sickness that usually occurs when you ascend to the surface too quickly. Other risks associated with diving are more serious ear and pulmonary conditions. Some divers have even been known to develop embolisms or blood clots. The best way to avoid these problems is to go with guides who are familiar with the area and its dangers and take a course with a well trained and certified individual and be aware if your body is telling you if something is wrong.
One of the more relaxing activities offered in Cabo San Lucas are the boat tours. Whether you enjoy some deep sea fishing, or some relaxing time aboard a glass bottom boat, there are a variety of tours to choose from. While this is very enjoyable, and relaxing, there are certain dangers involved. With Cabo San Lucas being so close to the equator there is the risk of over exposure to the sun. It is suggested that a good amount of sunscreen be used, preferably over 15spf. Another thing to be aware of is the possibility of dehydration, so it is important to keep yourself well hydrated.
A more adventurous and increasingly popular activity is parasailing. For those unfamiliar with it, parasailing turns you into a human kite suspended hundreds of feet above the beautiful waters of Cabo San Lucas. As long as you have clear weather and you are utilizing the right equipment operated by an experienced crew, parasailing can be a safe, fun, aerial adventure.
Being surrounded by the most beautiful beaches, chances are you will take advantage of the water and just swim. It is important to remember however, that not all beaches are swim-friendly. There are dangers of strong undertows in certain areas, and these areas will likely be posted.
Again, remember your delicate skin and use lotion and keep your self hydrated and your time on the beach will be most enjoyable.
Cabo San Lucas has a great deal to offer everyone. As with anything there are risks involved, but as long as you are well informed and take the necessary precautions, you will have a wonderful time!
